When I was about to start my flying and drone hobbies, I was so excited to get myself a drone. Without hesitations, I bought the one that appears to be very exquisite for me. It’s quite expensive and I know that was an impulse buy.
Many months after, I met a lot of people who have the same interests as me. And to my surprise, their drones were all like half the price of what I got! And get this, their drones are much more of a great quality than mine.
Table of Contents
Yes, you got that right.
And if you are looking for the right drones that can help you in your newest hobby or interest, you’ve come to the right place.
I have here a list of drones that are essentially for beginners. And if I would’ve known these before, I would really go for them instead.
Before I go over to the list, let me just remind you that these drones do possess great features considering its price range. However, expect that there will be disadvantages that are pretty much apparent. Nevertheless, any beginner would enjoy these:
The Force1 X5UW Drone is marketed as a race drone. But I wouldn’t do that if I were you. While it does not have the ultimate speed and maneuverability of an actual racing drone, it does have an altitude hold, 6 axis gyro system, and headless mode. These features are great for beginners who want to get familiar with stability and control.
It can do flips and other flight movements too. Also, it has automatic take-off and landing controls. And all of these can be easily executed with one-touch control.
As I see it, Force1 X5UW is much more of a camera drone due to its camera features. You can capture videos and images of great quality with its 720P HD camera. Also, you can connect your smartphones and tablets through its wi-fi module for first-person viewing.
However, make sure that you won’t be flying it farther than 66 meters from you. Plus, it could only last for 7 minutes per charge. Nevertheless, you could get three spare batteries, USB cable charge, and a USB card reader as additional inclusions of the package.
For a hundred-dollar or less, this is a pretty decent drone for a beginner.
I have included the Holy Stone F181C RC Quadcopter Drone in my list of best drones under 100 dollars due to its camera features. Any beginner would be excited to fly their first drones. But aside from that, taking videos and pictures using the drone is the next best thing to any newbie flyer.
The 720P HD camera of this drone can capture photos and videos that are really great. And if you are an aspiring photographer too, you would surely enjoy this. Also, the camera has night visions which are guided by the LED lights attached to it.
Another thing I love about this drone is that it can be a great training drone because of its four-speed options. I’ve seen some pros who use this as well. Accordingly, its speed variables may prepare you for more advanced flying routines.
Other features of this drone include headless mode, altitude hold, and one-key return, take-off, and landing. In addition, it can reach up to 100 meters of flight range with a maximum flight time of 9 minutes.
One of the best drones under 100 dollars that I’ve got to experience recently is the Force1 U818A. I added this to my list because of its features and controls that are largely designed for beginners and kids.
Firstly, it has a 6 Axis Gyro System that allows stability during flight. Moreover, it features a one-key flip for flight tricks and movements. So, it’s really a good drone for starters because you can practice your flying skills easily.
Secondly, it has a low-battery alarm function. This is quite useful since it will notify you when the battery needs charging already. Well, this is probably the reason why it does not offer one-key take-off and landing. But, I would suggest for it to be included in further improvements though.
Thirdly, the camera that is included in this drone is seen to be a 720P HD. While I find it not too great for capturing videos, this may work for first-time flyers. But, it offers 4GB memory card. So, you can store more recordings and captured images.
And lastly, Force1 U818A can reach up to 110 meters of flight range at a maximum time of 9 minutes.
The Eachine E58 made it to my list of best drones under 100 dollars because it pretty much offers the basic features of a beginner’s drone.
This drone is very compact and since it is foldable, you can easily carry it with you at all times. It’s a plus point for me because when I started my flying hobbies, I like flying my drone anywhere. And flying your drone in different places will help you experiment further your skills.
In addition to its overall built, it has a 2-megapixel and 720P camera. It’s not of the best quality but the products are pretty decent for its price.
You can practice and control the altitude as well with its Altitude Hold feature. Also, it has a one-key take-off and landing options that are essentially great for newbies like you. And with its Trajectory Flight Customization, you can easily make your own flight paths.
Eachine E58 can reach up to 100 meters of flight range. As for its battery life, it can last up to 7 minutes only which I find the greatest drawback of this drone.
The thing that I like the most in DBPOWER’s MJX X400W Drone is that it is a 3D-headset-compatible drone. Among all the ones in my list of the best drones under 100 dollars, I consider this as the most unique because of this feature.
It offers a 720P camera that is great for aerial photography and videography. I pretty much like the products of its camera too. So, imagine seeing those things during a flight with a 3D headset, quite amazing - right?
Also, this drone is kind of an entry-level drone for racing due to its dual speed modes. As a beginner, you may practice your speed with this feature.
Same with the other drones in this list, it features Headless Mode for automatic orientation, one-key return for loss avoidance, and one-touch buttons for flight movements.
The MJX X400W can still be operated even if its a hundred meters away from you. But you may lose it already if it reaches anything further than that. Also, it can last up to 9 minutes but it’s impossible to go further those times since it does not provide free spare batteries.
Not unless, of course, you purchase your own spare batteries and chargers.
Hubsan X4 Quadcopter is small and portable. It’s pretty decent for any kids and newbies wanting to learn how to fly a drone. Well, it may be small but the features are big enough to suffice any beginner’s need.
During flight, its 6 axis gyro system along with its adjustable sensitivity can help you have a better control and stability. And these features are suitable if you are having a hard time handling larger drones.
It also comes with a built-in transmitter screen in which you can stream real-time footages. Although, the camera is not that great especially if you are looking forward to having a great quality of aerial photography and videography.
Another thing that I love about this mini-drone is its durability. And this is mainly the reason why I consider this drone as one of the best drones under 100 dollars! At first, I thought its size will largely affect its lifespan but I thought wrong. It can handle numerous crashes due to its strong frame.
In addition, it comes with one protection cover, four spare propellers, and a U-wrench.
While the Hubsan X4 drone can reach up to 100 meters of flight range, it won’t last that long. The maximum flight time it can reach is only 5 minutes. And it does not provide extra batteries.
I’ve included the Fansteck RC Quadcopter in my list of the best drones under 100 dollars due to its all-inclusive features. While this drone may be small (but not as small as the Hubsan X4), it is equipped with features that most expensive entry-level drones do have.
You can customize your flight paths using its dedicated smartphone app. Along with the customization, the drone can do trick and flips with one touch controls. In addition, it has Altitude Hold and Headless Mode features as well.
Newbies will love its one-key take-off and landing too. And if you are looking to upgrade your flying skills, say, to racing perhaps, it is quite possible since this drone features two-speed modes that you can adjust according to your pace preferences.
As for its camera, it offers a 720P resolution of videos and images. You can have real-time views as well using the installed app on your smartphone.
This drone can reach 50 to 100 meters of flight range. And it can last up to 7 minutes on an average note. And this is probably the major drawback of the Fansteck RC Quadcopter.
If you are looking for the best drones under 100 dollar price range, this basic drone of DROCON may be a suitable pick for you. Although it does not provide any innovative or unique feature, it has all the basic specifications of a drone that can help you start your flying activities.
DROCON drone features a dedicated application wherein you could watch real-time footages captured by the built-in 720P camera. Using its wi-fi module, the drone can transmit its data efficiently even if its 100 meters away from you.
The materials used in its core are crash resistant. So, expect that this drone can last for years in your possession.
It provides one-key return features as well. But, this will work only if it’s still within the specified flight range. Hence, make no mistakes in flying it beyond 100 meters from you. Also, this basic drone can last up to 8 minutes.
Furthermore, you can adjust its speed as well since it provides dual speed modes. Many beginners love this feature for it gives them better control while flying the drone.
The Holy Stone U818A Drone is not entirely designed for beginners. Pros could actually enjoy this drone too since it features a lot of functions that any high-end drones normally provide.
Let’s talk about the base functions. This drone has a 6 axis gyro system, one-touch flight controls, and four-channel features that are basically great for controlling flights. Also, it provides a low-battery alarm. As a beginner, you would certainly improve your flying skills.
Alongside the base functions, it is also equipped with high-capacity motors that can ensure a better flight performance. And during these performances, the drone is protected by its durable frames and materials. It keeps all parts intact even if it crashes.
It definitely made it to my list of the best drones under 100 dollars. However, its flight range can only reach 80 meters. As for its flight time, it can only last up to 7 minutes. These are largely the downsides of the Holy Stone U818A.
Nevertheless, it’s a pretty decent drone for your flying activities. Besides, it comes with two spare batteries for a much longer flight time.
Some wouldn’t see the GordVE RC Drone as one of today’s best drones under 100 dollars due to its durability capacities. Although it’s foldable and compact, it cannot handle a few crashes during flight.
But other than that, this is pretty much a decent drone that can be used by many newbies in the field.
What I like about this drone is that it provides a VR box and glasses! I have my personal experiences using the virtual reality set, and I find them quite mesmerizing. Along with its camera that has great quality specifications, you could see almost every detail in the field.
Features such as Altitude Hold, Headless Mode, Auto-Return, Flight Path Customization, and one-touch flight controls are basically the reasons why this can be a great match for you. Although, you just need to be careful of every flight movements you make since it’s not that durable.
Also, among all drones on this list, the GordVE RC Drone is the only one that can reach up to 70 meters as its minimum flight range. Plus, it can last up to 15 minutes which is quite impressive considering its overall price.
The KD Interactive Aura Drone is not your typical and tradition drone. Well, this drone is largely designed for indoor uses only. So, I would say that this is quite suitable for beginners, especially for kids.
The main feature that this drone offers to many users is its Glove Controller. The included innovative gloves provide all the needed buttons for flying a drone. It’s still a controller but integrated into a pair of gloves. The technology used in the gloves is called GestureBotics.
With the use of the GestureBotics, you can do several flight movements. These include flips, rolls, and dips. Also, there is an automatic take-off and landing included in the functions. And the same applies to automatic hover and mode enabling.
The Interactive Auro Drone does not have any camera features. So, it’s basically a simple drone meant to fly only. And because it is made for indoor uses alone, expect that the flight range and flight time are short as well. At its maximum states, it could reach up to 7.6 meters away from you that can only last for 5 minutes.
While it’s basically a toy-grade drone that is largely made for entertainment purposes, it still caught my interests. The idea is very innovative. Imagine when it is further improved, right? Hence, I included it in my list of best drones under 100 dollars.
Blade Nano QX RTF Quadcopter is small, light, and compact. It is apparently designed to have great maneuverability. But, before anything else - this drone does not offer any camera features. So, it’s basically a flying drone only.
But still, it is one of my top choices for the best drones under 100 dollars because of the innovative features that it can provide to many users especially beginners and kids.
Primarily, it is the only drone that I know of to provide the exclusive SAFE technology. With the use of SAFE or Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope, it stabilizes, controls, and manages the efficiency of the drone to fly.
It can fly without meeting crashes on places with small areas. Also, it can do various flight movements that are good for exhibitions. With its stability and agility mode along with the powerful brushed motors, the nano-drone can execute different flight paths.
With the said technology, you would definitely have this for quite a long time. In addition, the airframe is equipped with blade guards for better durability.
Although its flight range can only reach 13.3 meters that can last up to 8 minutes at its maximum, this is a great and innovative drone for beginners and hobbyists.
Lastly, but definitely not the least on my list of the best drones under 100 dollars is the SYMA X5C-1 RC Quadcopter. And I kind of call this as the budget camera drone since it’s the most affordable camera drone among all the ones on my list.
While this is a great drone for beginners, it also suits anyone who wants to practice their drone tricks. It primarily features the 3D Evasion Technology that allows the drone to execute automatic 360-degree movements. This is quite useful especially when paths are filled with obstacles.
In addition, it has a 6 axis gyro system for better stability during flights. And get this, it cycles around 2.4 GHz tech which is great especially when you are flying together with others who have drones as well.
As for its camera, the results from it are pretty decent and great enough for a beginner learning how to fly a drone and execute aerial photography or videography.
However, it can only reach up to 30 meters and can only last up to 7 minutes.
Now, that I have given my list of the best drones under 100 dollars, I hope that this would help you in your decision-making. And to help you further, I’ve included as well the factors that you need to consider first before making a purchase.
As a beginner, I would largely suggest that you should consider first the stability features and convenience of the controls of a drone. These features are important especially when you are just about to start your flying interests.
Try to opt for drones that offer 6 Axis Gyro System, Altitude Hold, Headless Mode, and One-Key Flight Controls. All of these features are to help you learn all the basics of flying a drone.
Another important factor that you should look into is the durability of the drone. It is essential for you to know that you will crash your drone. Whether you are a beginner or a pro in the flying field, it will happen. So, it’s just fitting that you consider how long your drone could last in terms of its lifespan.
Personally, the one that really caught my eye and the one that I would surely buy (if I could turn back time) is the DBPOWER MJX X400W.
Firstly, it is compatible with 3D Headsets which is great for real-time FPVs. Not to mention the quality of the camera too. Secondly, it features the Altitude Hold, Headless Mode, and One-Key Return and Take-Off. And thirdly, it’s an entry-level racing drone.
In a nutshell, making your first purchase is quite challenging especially if you are new in this line. But, once you get to know all the essential aspects and factors, you would certainly get the most suitable drone for your unique needs.
Also, try to explore more and experience various kinds of drones as each of them may offer different perspectives.
